Choose your social networking medium carefully

Yes I do understand that a lot of you are fascinated by social networks and we all most of us a lot of us want to become early adopters and hop on to the bandwagon but people! Its important to understand how each social network is slightly different from another.

Facebook is for your friends or people who you want to stay in touch with on a very personal level. Try to understand when you add your professor on FB, he can see you talking dirty to your best buddies as well as the fact that you’re a “kinky” sex lover. At the same time, a VC you might have just met, might not want you to see that he’s a “Kinky” sex lover, so think before adding him on FB. He might deny your request. Permission is important.

Linkedin on the other hand is a professional website. True, there are some people who get on to Linkedin to “Try to take over the world, every night.” But then those are Visionary Egomaniacs looking at World Dominance and not everyone can aspire to be those.

Twitter on the other hand is nice and very informal yet convenient. Anyone can follow anyone, you can broadcast as well as maintain a one on one conversation. Twitter is an open playground of sorts, where things don’t get very personal, a good place to make acquaintances.

Please people try to understand the relationship you want with the other person (and vice versa) and then use these channels. Just because someone is on your Linkedin account doesn’t mean he has to be on your facebook account. Also, just because someone follows you, DOESN’T mean that you can add them on Linkedin. Not everyone wants to share their contacts with you. Privacy is important. Such is world.
